Our heritage is deeply rooted in Australian soil. It began in 1897 with the incorporation of a pottery factory in suburban Melbourne that made terracotta tiles, flower pots, chimney pots and drain pipes. It also dates back to 1898, when a small beekeeping supply business decided to manufacture their own wire fencing for hives. It goes back to a small Melbourne hand tool company founded in 1904 and a wheelbarrow manufacturer started around the same time by the Adelaide Steamship Company. And it has roots in a plastics company launched in Mentone in 1927.
Those enterprises went on to create some of the most iconic and highly regarded brands in Australasia: Cyclone, Northcote Pottery, Kelso and Nylex. Along the way, other top brands became part of the family: Westmix, Supercraft and Hills.
All of our brands today share the same heritage of making high quality, innovative products for work and living.
HARD WORK. BIG IDEAS. THE AMES HERITAGE.
